In recent years, health care providers in Ohio have made great strides in increasing patient education on safe and effective pain management practices. In an effort to continue to build a culture of responsible prescribing and medication safety, Take Charge Ohio has recently partnered with several state agencies and licensing boards to develop educational resources for patients and prescribers.

Pain Management Resources
Educational materials empower patients to be involved in their pain management care. Check out the educational resources below to help increase patient awareness for safe pain management strategies.
  1. NonOpioid Treatment for Chronic Pain: CDC fact sheet for healthcare providers that describes pain management alternatives to prescribing opioids for patients’ chronic pain.
  2. Prescription Opioids: What You Need to Know: This CDC fact sheet details the risks associated with taking prescription opioids as well as the options available to patients for alternative pain management.
  3. What Are the Risks of Opioid Pain Medications: Opioids are not right for everyone. They can have some very serious side effects. This information can help encourage friends and loved ones to ask important questions about pain management BEFORE taking opioids.
